One of my absolute favourite nights of the year is the “All In” for Kids Poker Tournament presented by the World Poker Tour in New York City, and I was honored to help host the evening once again.
With support from poker legend Phil Hellmuth, event co-founder Dan Shak and 275 generous guests at the swanky Mandarin Oriental in New York City, we raised nearly $700,000 to benefit The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, bringing the total to more than $2.3 million raised in this event over the past three years!
In 2014, I got to visit the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for a tour with WPT Foundation. I was absolutely blown away by CHOP’s extraordinary facilities. This is one of the most outstanding pediatric hospitals in the world, dealing with the most heartbreaking conditions in children, yet they have somehow managed to find a way to bring bounds of joy, color and life into the building.
Every corner we turned at CHOP, we were pleasantly surprised by something – whether it was the smiling faces of the nurses, colorful murals on the walls, children tapping on their xylophones in music class, or a toddler scooting by in his toy car.
This year, proceeds from the “All In” for Kids Poker Tournament specifically go to the hospital’s Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, one of the largest, most active programs of its kind. The Division provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art care and intestinal rehabilitation to children with a wide range of common and complex conditions, including inflammatory bowel diseases, liver diseases, celiac disease, chronic nutritional disorders and feeding and swallowing disorders. Division faculty are actively involved in innovative clinical trials and numerous research projects that have changed the course of treatment for thousands of children.
The event was a great success, with delicious food, desserts, cocktails, and loads of deep-pockets generously bidding on auction items and re-buying in the tournament. I had such a blast, I event ended up making it to the final table with my friends Dan Shak and Antonio Rodriquez!
I eventually came seventh, with Dan and Antonio making it to heads-up. In the end it was Antonio, co-founder of Cibeles Capital Advisors, who took the title. Congratulations Antonio! Check out the segment from World Poker Tour Season XIV for all the highlights:
