This episode of Stay Stacked features the divine Mish Schaffer, a transformative and creative meditation facilitator, reiki practitioner, naturopath, and owner of Meditation with Mish.
Mish has conducted extensive research into how our thoughts can impact the experiences in our lives, the results that we produce, and even our physical being.
No matter what job or activity we may have, our mind is our greatest tool. Whether it’s holding a conversation, digging a hole, or playing poker, knowing how to take control over your thoughts and prevent them from impacting your task at hand is a powerful ability.
An excerpt from Mish’s website explains that to understand what meditation is, its helpful to understand what meditation isn’t. One of the frequent misconceptions people have about meditation, is that you must stop your mind from thinking. The following analogy from The Guided Meditation Site provides some valuable insight in this concept:
“Your mind is like a River.
Trying to stop your mind from thinking is like trying to stop a river from flowing with your bare hands…it’s exhausting and almost impossible to accomplish.
When you learn how to meditate, you learn to step out of the river, and let your thoughts flow past you effortlessly. When you learn to do this, you will find that your river of thoughts slows down all by itself. No effort is required.
Meditation is an act of letting go, not an act of shutting down.”
