This weekend, we got to honour the greatest Wildlife Warrior that ever lived by celebrating in Los Angeles for the Steve Irwin Gala Dinner.
Steve had a vision for conservation where people and wildlife could live harmoniously alongside one another, and that certainly happened on Saturday when the red carpet was graced with the presence of humans, snakes, owls and even a cheetah!
Once everyone took their seats in the misty Grand Ballroom of the J.W. Marriott in Los Angeles, the feast, fundraising and celebrations began.
Midway through the night, fellow Wildlife Warrior Global Ambassador, Ellie Gonsalves, and I ran a pledge drive to raise money for the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, where over 63,000 patients have been treated since the doors opened in 2004, with almost 8000 of those being our precious, endangered koalas.
The money raised was specifically going toward the Wildlife Hospital’s world-leading koala treatment facility where there can be up to 100 koalas in care at any one time. The hospital is not government funded and relies solely on the generous donations of the public, so it was spectacular to get to raise over $15,000 during our six-minute pledge drive!
There was plenty of amazing items up for auction throughout the night that raised thousands of more dollars for Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, including one of the dresses Bindi wore on Dancing with Stars.
The very first Wildlife Warriors Steve Irwin gala dinner in Los Angeles was a huge success and I’m really looking forward to its return again next year!
